The Temescal Canyon band is under the direction of Mr. Tyler Smith. A Southern California native, he, and his wife Katie Smith, are actually alumni of the school. Following graduation from Temescal Canyon, Mr. Smith received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Washington in Seattle. He taught in Seattle for three years and a year in Fairbanks, Alaska before returning home to take the position at Temescal Canyon.
Mr. Smith’s primary instrument is the tuba and performs regularly as a free-lance musician. He has performed professionally in everything from small quintets to full orchestras and even spent six years playing tuba in the Mexican band, Banda Vagos.
In July of 2008 Mr. and and Mrs. Smith were proud to welcome their first child, Soven Christopher Smith, into the world. He has quickly become the unofficial mascot of the TCHS Band.
