It all started during lunch time at the Quad area of the school.  At first, we were off to a slow start.  People were standing around, watching to see what was going to actually take place….  One foot of tape went for a dollar.  Within the first 15 minutes, students were asking how much for a full roll of duct tape!  Thanks to Ace Hardware for donating all the duct tape for this event!  We literally love all the “support” we can get!

In 2007, GoodSearch was expanded to include GoodShop, an online shopping mall of world-class merchants dedicated to helping fund worthy causes across the country. Each purchase made via the GoodShop mall results in a donation to the user’s designated charity or school – averaging approximately 3% of the sale, but going up to 20% or even more.

Ken and JJ wanted to create a means to support charities so that people would say, “Why wouldn’t you do it?” That’s what GoodSearch does. Since it doesn’t cost anything and you get proven search results, there’s no reason not to use it!

GoodSearch is dedicated to Ken and JJ’s mother, who passed away from cancer and who taught them both that by working together with dogged dedication, we can really make this world a better place.

Where does the money come from?

Search engines make most of their money from companies that pay an advertising fee when users click on links during a search. At GoodSearch, we’ve developed a patent-pending way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to charities. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you’ve chosen to support.

Seeking Profits in Nonprofits

Giving without Giving In today’s troubled economy, Ken Ramberg’s recipe for fund-raising is simple: give people at all income levels a tool for benefiting charity without spending a dime. GoodSearch, the Los Angeles-based company that he and his sister JJ founded in 2005, tries to do just that.

Their vehicle is an Internet search engine called GoodSearch (goodsearch.com), powered by Yahoo. A visitor to the site can both initiate a search and specify a charity; GoodSearch donates a penny to the charity for each search. A charity with 1,000 supporters searching the Internet twice a day will receive $7,300 in a year.

Since the company started, users have chosen to benefit more than 68,000 nonprofits and schools. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, for example, has received $18,800 in donations, Mr. Ramberg said. GoodSearch adds 100 charities each day, drawn from users’ request, after vetting them to make sure they are legitimate, Mr. Ramberg said.

The charities pay nothing to participate, and at first thought “it was too good to be true,” said Ms. Ramberg, 38, who was previously a television reporter. “In the beginning they vetted us, too.”

Mr. Ramberg, 43, was already a successful entrepreneur when he started GoodSearch. The founder of Jobtrak — a job listing and résumé database for college students — he presumably made his fortune (he would not discuss financial matters) in the dot-com era when he sold the company to Monster.com in 2000.

Like other search engines, GoodSearch generates revenues from display ads that visitors may click on after they see the search results. Yahoo and GoodSearch split these fees, and GoodSearch, in turn, donates half of what it receives. Mr. Ramberg said his company was profitable.

A year ago, a sister site, GoodShop, was added. It donates half the commissions the company receives when it links visitors to online retailers. Visitors to GoodSearch remain anonymous, and they get the same results as if they had initiated the query from Yahoo.com, Mr. Ramberg said. So far, the biggest challenge is getting people who rely on other search engines, like Google, to use GoodSearch instead.

Another one of our fundraisers is drawing near.

Attached is the flyer for the Shopping Extravaganza at the Lake Elsinore Outlet Mall on October 17th from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. For each ticket sold, the band will receive the $20.00. It is a full day

of fun, savings, food, wine tasting and, of course, pampering. During the day there are raffles for gift cards.

Our chair for this fundraiser is Debbie Smith (Drummer, Jake Smith’s mom). The tickets need to be pre-sold with the attached order form and turned into Mr.

Smith. The money for each ticket sold must be included with the order forms. All monies are due to Mr. Smith no later than Friday, September 25th.

As you know, the district is becoming more and more limited with helping schools out with what they consider “extras.” TCHS Band takes on the burden each year of paying for their own transportation. This year is no different. This fundraiser is set up to help offset the costs of transportation for the many events this year that TCHS travels to and from. Please encourage your neighbors, family, friends, and co-workers to buy a ticket for this worthy cause!

The students worked really hard last week at band camp. The numbers are totaled for the March-A-Thon.   Please download the attached MS Excel Band Camp Pedometer Readingsspreadsheet for total steps marched/walked by each student.

Pledges are due on August 12th to Mr. Smith.

Thank you for your support of our Music Program! Every little bit helps!

The week of band camp each student will be wearing a pedometer to count steps. At the end of the week a total step count will be given to each student.

How it Works:
1. Request Donations from all your friends and family for the week of band camp July 27th – July 31st (8AM – 8PM)
2. Keep Track of those sponsors on your pledge form (Click here for the form or go to the Documents/Forms page)
3. Pledge forms & Sponsorship monies are due on August 12th (Wednesday).

Please Remember:
1. Checks are the preferred method of payment and they should be made out to TCHS BAND BOOSTERS.
2. Please place your name (Band Member name) in the memo line and the words “March-A-Thon”
3. Donations are all tax-deductible and a receipt can be issued upon request.
4. No contribution is too small. Remember $5 from 20 different people adds up!

This is our first year for the March-a-Thon Fundraiser. We hope it will be successful and will be a huge fundraiser in years to follow.

We know the economy is rough out there, but “it never hurts to ask”.

So we are asking our friends, neighbors, family members, anyone who is an independent business owner who has the ability to a student’s efforts.  It does not have to be a local business, but please also consider asking a dentist, doctor, real estate agent, insurance agent, contractors, landscapers, hair stylist, carpet cleaner or pest control.  Any help is always GREAT help!

The responsibility of the Volunteer is to assist the Band Director and take care of Band Members at various events.  Volunteers are not in charge of Band Members, Volunteers are there to assist.
